Coil has been some kind of echo in my life since I found films of Derek Jarman (Coil did soundtracks for him). Everywhere I have read about this band it has received praises, but there was difficulties with starting to dig deep in their music, because they have so rich and huge discography, and about one hour lenght albums full of experimental soundscapes afraid me, so I got pretty soft touch with The Unreleased Themes of Hellraiser.
Basically it is soundtrack for sadomasochistic horror classic Hellraiser, that was never included in actual flick, not commercial enough, that's why. Stupid decision, if you ask anyone who is listened Coil version. Christopher Young made final score is magnificent, but misses something important to that film: disturbance.
And oh man Coil knows how to be disturbing enough and over. Unreleased themes are strikingly opressive, scary industrial worlds, perfect for this kind of cinema. But no is no, so maybe we will not ever see cut of Hellraiser with Coil soundtrack. Depressing.
